At the January 2018 Policy Hour, we made a special announcement renaming the event in honor of our friend and colleague, Ann Kaner-Roth. You can read more about the tribute on our Facebook page.

Minnesota's Future now hosts Policy Hour, a monthly opportunity for early childhood and school-age care professionals to connect with each other and learn about current policy issues in an informal setting.

Policy Hour is held the first Tuesday of each month, October 2017-June 2018, from Noon-1:00 p.m. at Think Small (2021 East Hennepin Avenue | Suite LL20, Minneapolis, MN 55413). Except for January, which will be held the second Tuesday on January 9.

Join us on Tuesday, May 1 to hear from Rebecca Noecker, St. Paul City Councilperson, about the Saint Paul Children's Collaborative, a blueprint for a citywide “3K” program to provide equitable access to affordable, high-quality preschool for all three-and four-year old children in Saint Paul.

Want to have a better understanding of how federal policy impacts our state work? Join us on Tuesday, April 3 to discuss what is happening with early childhood and afterschool federal policy. We will be discussing recent activity with a focus on the Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG) and 21st Century Community Grants.

Join us on Tuesday, March 6 to get an update on the work of the Governor's Children's Cabinet from Kelly Monson, Executive Director & the Early Learning Council from Nancy Jost, Chair.

The purpose of the Cabinet is to better coordinate policies, programs, and resources across agencies and communities to support improved outcomes for Minnesota's children. A recent expansion includes early childhood workforce development and housing.

The Early Learning Council brings together early education leaders to discuss issues and recommend legislation to the Governor and Children's Cabinet.

February 6, 2018

Join us on Tuesday, February 6 to hear from the Minnesota Budget Project regarding the recent budget forecast. In addition, we will be joined by several lobbyists who will be sharing their perspective and predictions of the upcoming 2018 legislative session that begins on February 20.

February 6 is also Precinct Caucus Day in Minnesota! Going to a caucus is a great way to show support for a candidate, raise an issue that's important to you, influence who the party will endorse for many offices, and meet people in your community. Learn more here.

January 9, 2018

Join us for Policy Hour on Tuesday, January 9, to learn more about two early childhood data resources available in Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Education will demonstrate how to use ECLDS, the state’s early childhood data system. This will be followed by the Children’s Defense Fund's presentation about their 2017 Kid’s Count Data Book.

December 5, 2017

Join us for Policy Hour on Tuesday, December 5th, for a discussion on the early childhood workforce efforts both nationally and here in Minnesota. Learn more about NAEYC's Power to the Profession project, the B8's Transforming Minnesota's Early Childhood Workforce project, and Minnesota's work with the National Governors Association (NGA) to identify strategies to improve ECE compensation. In addition, there will be opportunities to find out about how you can contribute to the conversation.

Join us on Tuesday, November 7 (election day!) for another look at policy initiatives that passed last session that impact early childhood and afterschool, this time featuring staff from the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Learn more about changes to child care licensing, the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), and how Minnesota is implementing the new Child Care and Development Block Grant requirements.

Join us Tuesday, October 3 for the first Policy Hour of the new season! After a long, drawn-out session, there were a number of policy initiatives that passed that impact early childhood, including a new program called School Readiness Plus. The Minnesota Department of Education will give us an update on this program, as well as Voluntary Pre-K, and answer our questions.
